"Roadents" from years gone by…

So, where did the name "Roadents" come from?

Well, the first year I rode the PMC (1989) I rode with this guy named "Turk". Turk and I met a group of riders that year that were known as the "B-Czar B-Stees". These guys are great. Real fun bunch to hang with. Anyway, Turk was wearing this shirt with a large Rat on it. Salty, one of the b-stees, gave Turk the nickname of "Ratman". Before we knew it, a crew of us that rode together were known as "Ratmen". Well, this was ok for the first year on the ride but we figured that we needed to have a better name for the group the next year we rode. After several beers and many different ideas we agreed on the name "Team Roadent". For the first several years I participated in the PMC we had a large crew of Roadents that showed up each year. The crew ranged in size from 10 to 20 people.

As for "Team Roadent", it's pretty much just a fond memory of days gone by. There are really only four of us (Bill and Steve K, Steve H, and Bob W) left still riding in the PMC each year. The one constant seems to be that the "B-Stees" still exist pretty much with the same original lineup plus some additions, including me, over the past few years. They do seem to get more outrageous and creative with each year. It's something I look forward to. Once a year I basically get to leave my real world behind and go into a place you have to visit to understand. The "B-Stees" are a significant part of what makes that place real fun. Thanks guys!

So, that's the story of "Team Roadent" and basically where it's gone. Hope you enjoyed it. Who knows, maybe some of you will be inspired to try the PMC and get hooked for your own reasons. It's up to you if that's a good thing or not…

Does Ed look happy or what? (p-town 1991) You would be too if you just finished 192 miles, had a belly full of beer, and a great pair of hands on your shoulders.

Who is that sleeping dude? Recognize him?
