It's that time of year again. What time is that you ask? Time to start my shameless request for Pan Mass Challenge pledges.
This will be my fifteenth year riding in the Pan Mass Challenge. It will also probably be one of the more emotional years as this year it's very personal. My father in-law was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in January of this year and has been battling it fiercely ever since. I've gotten to know the Dana Farber Cancer Institute better than I ever wanted to. However, I have to tell you, I've always heard the stories and praises people gave Dana Farber and until recently I never realized what a truly amazing place it really is.
The family has dealt with many hospitals since his diagnosis and Dana Farber is by far the most amazing place we've been associated with. The people are incredible. This goes for everyone from the people that check you in, the nurses, doctors, just everyone. They know how to treat people. Even one of the ambulance drivers commented to us that they are treated better at Dana Farber than any other hospital they deal with. In short, "Dana Farber gets it". They realize what caring for people is all about.
As most of you are aware, the money raised by the PMC goes to the Jimmy Fund at Dana Farber. More than 92% of all funds raised from the PMC goes directly to the Dana Farber. This accounts for more than 25% of all money Dana Farber raises for research. This is incredible compared to other charities.
As I've said, this year is going to be a very tough one to get through but this is my way of fighting back and doing something to combat this horrible disease. My goal this year is to raise $8000.00, my minimum required to enter being $4500.00. I will be matching the first $1000.00 in pledges. Please help if you can by sponsoring me in the 2003 PMC. Also, if you know someone else that you think would like to contribute, please forward this note on to them. You too can help raise funds for this cause. Working together we should be able to reach the goal I've set.
